Conférence : The Tibet Mirror and Media Interventions on Tibetan Independence in the 1950s and 1960s

À propos de la conférence

Zooming in on one of the earliest Tibetan-language newspapers, the talk will explore how The Tibet Mirror operated in the 1950s and 1960s, what kind of content was disseminated through it, how its publications framed the Sino–Tibetan relations and contributed to shaping the early pro-Tibetan nationalist ideology. Largely drawing from the conclusions made in my doctoral dissertation, I aim to demonstrate that The Tibet Mirror not only chronicled the news during the above-mentioned period, but defined the trajectory of the development of Tibetan nationalism and constructed the grand master narrative of Tibetan independence that was later reflected and reproduced in the writings of prominent members of Tibetan diaspora.
