Concert: “Echoes of the Snowland: Tsering Lodoe Performing Songs and Stories from Tibet”

À propos de l'artiste

Tsering Lodoe (1973-) is one of the most well-known Tibetan singers living in exile. He was born into a Tibetan refugee family in India and joined the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) in Dharamsala at the age of 8. He has a complete training in all aspects of the traditional Tibetan music and performing arts: musical instruments, dance, singing, and most remarkably Tibetan Opera (ache lhamo), for which he has held the role of the “prince” (some of the most difficult arias to perform) for decades. His stunning voice has attracted the attention of several musicians: Tsering Lodoe is the was the lead singer on the soundtrack in the internationally acclaimed film “Himalaya” (Bruno Coulais, 1999), and he can also be heard on the soundtrack of “Seven Years in Tibet” (1998). He has sung for His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Pope John Paul II. He is also a gifted storyteller, a great comedian, and an endearing performer. He has left TIPA after 23 years of service, and now lives in Montana, USA, while remaining affiliated to TIPA.
